No One is Born "Good" at Gymnastics

When we see successful people on the internet, it's easy to think "Oh, they have it so easy", overlooking the years of prep-work that went unnoticed.

Believe me, I love when athletes tell me "You make it look so easy!", and absolutely cringe when I hear, "I'll never be able to do that. You're just better."

Well, why do you think I'm better? I wasn't born doing gymnastics out of the womb. I worked, like every other elite athlete.

This photo was taken in 2005 after winning my first Level 10 Regionals, and qualifying to my first Junior Olympics. Notice how young I look?

I've been doing this for a long time, at the highest level, training under the best coaches in the world (The 2004 US Olympic Head Coach).

If I wasn't exceptional at gymnastics, we'd have a problem, and I wouldn't be coaching.

I put in the time, listened, educated myself, practiced, and practiced some more.

The difference between you and I, is our timing.

Maybe you're just starting gymnastics & it's hard— Well, make sure you know I was on the same path you are, just a few years earlier.

Is this sport easier to learn as a child? Absolutely.
Is it still possible to learn as an adult? Absolutely.

Yes, you may have to work harder than you ever have, but that doesn't mean you won't ever become a gymnast.

If you dedicate the time & effort, and learn from an experienced coach, you will have success.

I love coaching because I've been there, have experiences, and can relate to athletes first hand.

I didn't wake up successful in this sport, and neither will you. It takes effort.
